Course Learning Objectives:
- Understand the types and purposes of sedation and anesthesia used in dentistry.
- Recognize the importance of adherence to ADA Guidelines and ADSA Safety Checklist.
- Appreciate the role of a dental assistant in emergency preparedness and response.
- Learn how to assist in pre-anesthetic patient evaluations.
- Identify and communicate risk factors and contraindications for sedation.
- Support the implementation of ADA guidelines in patient assessment.

Duane has 25 years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician. He has worked in a variety of pre-hospital and hospital environments in volunteer and paid positions in rural and urban areas. He brings his rich background and experience in EMS to the dental profession to support dentists and their staff with fulfilling medical emergency preparedness training requirements.
